If a buyer opens a dishonest dispute you have the right to present your evidence. We review photos messages and tracking information. Fraudulent buyer claims are dismissed and the buyer faces consequences.

Return Requirements

Buyers cannot simply claim a refund without returning the item. For items over $75 a return is required before any refund is issued. We do not allow buyers to keep items AND get refunds except for very low value items.

Prohibited Items

The following items are strictly not allowed on Shoal Marketplace. Listings will be removed immediately and accounts suspended.

🔴 Weapons and Firearms

Guns ammunition knives marketed as weapons and any related accessories.

🔴 Illegal Drugs and Substances

Any controlled substances drug paraphernalia or items used to consume illegal drugs.

🔴 Stolen Property

Any item that was obtained through theft or illegal means.

🔴 Counterfeit Goods

Fake designer items replica luxury goods or any item misrepresented as genuine.

🔴 Adult Content

Any sexually explicit material content or services of any kind.

🔴 Live Animals

Living animals of any species. Pet supplies and accessories are permitted.

🔴 Prescription Medications

Any prescription drugs controlled medications or pharmaceutical products requiring a prescription.

🔴 Pirated Media and Software

Copied DVDs pirated software or any media that infringes on copyright.

🔴 Hazardous Materials

Chemicals explosives flammable materials or anything that poses a safety risk in shipping.

🔴 Personal Financial Information

Bank account details credit card numbers identity documents or any personal data.

🔴 Alcohol Without License

Alcohol may only be sold by licensed retailers with proof of licensing provided.

🔴 Items Promoting Hate

Any item that promotes hatred discrimination or violence against any group of people.

All reports are reviewed within 24 hours. Urgent fraud reports are prioritized immediately.
Your identity is kept confidential in all investigations.

Consequences for Breaking Our Rules

We take violations seriously. Here is exactly what happens.

⚠️ Warning

First minor violation. Written warning issued via email. Violation noted on account. Account remains active.

🔇 Temporary Suspension

Repeated minor violations or first serious violation. Account suspended for 7 to 30 days. All listings temporarily removed. Pending payouts held during suspension.

🔒 Permanent Ban

Serious violations including fraud scamming selling prohibited items or threatening other members. Account permanently closed. All listings removed. Future accounts will also be banned. Pending payouts may be forfeited in cases of fraud.

⚖️ Legal Action

For the most serious violations including large scale fraud theft identity theft or criminal activity. We will report to the Royal Bahamas Police Force. We will cooperate fully with any criminal investigation. We will pursue civil action to recover losses where applicable.

We believe in second chances for minor mistakes. But we have zero tolerance for intentional fraud and scamming.
The Bahamian community deserves better.

Safe Trading Tips for Bahamians

Follow these guidelines to protect yourself on any marketplace.

FOR BUYERS:

  • 🛒 Always pay through Shoal
    Never pay cash directly to sellers even if they ask you to. Your Shoal payment is protected. Cash is not.
  • 📸 Check all photos carefully
    Look at every photo. Ask for more if needed. If photos look like stock images or too perfect be cautious.
  • ⭐ Check seller ratings
    Always look at the seller rating reviews and how long they have been on Shoal before buying. New sellers are not necessarily bad but take extra care.
  • 💬 Communicate through Shoal
    Keep all conversations inside Shoal messages. This creates a record that protects you if anything goes wrong.
  • 🔍 Research the price
    If something seems too cheap to be true it often is. Check what similar items sell for before buying.
  • 📦 Inspect before confirming
    When your item arrives inspect it thoroughly before clicking Confirm Delivery. Once confirmed the sale is considered complete.
  • 🚨 Trust your instincts
    If something feels wrong it probably is. Do not proceed with any transaction that makes you uncomfortable.
  • 📞 Never share personal details
    Never give out your home address phone number or financial information to sellers outside of what Shoal requires.

FOR SELLERS:

  • 📷 Use real photos
    Take clear photos of the actual item you are selling. Multiple angles. Show any defects honestly. This protects you from disputes.
  • 📝 Describe accurately
    Be specific and honest about condition age and any issues. Overselling leads to disputes. Honest descriptions lead to happy buyers and good reviews.
  • 📬 Ship with tracking
    Always use a tracked shipping method. Without tracking you cannot prove you shipped the item if a dispute arises.
  • 💬 Respond quickly
    Try to respond to buyer messages within 24 hours. Quick communication builds trust and prevents disputes.
  • 📦 Package carefully
    Pack items securely. If an item arrives damaged due to poor packaging it is your responsibility.
  • 💰 Only accept Shoal payments
    Never accept cash bank transfers or payments outside of Shoal. These are not protected and you have no recourse if a buyer claims non-delivery.
  • 🚫 Do not sell outside Shoal
    If a buyer asks to complete the transaction outside the platform to avoid fees — decline. This violates our terms and removes all your protections.
  • ⭐ Build your reputation
    Treat every buyer like a valued customer. Your rating is your business reputation in the Bahamian community.

Protecting Young Bahamians

The safety of young people in our community is our highest priority.

AGE REQUIREMENTS:

Buyers must be at least 13 years old. Sellers must be at least 18 years old. This is strictly enforced.

CONTENT STANDARDS:

All listings must be appropriate for a general audience. Any listing containing adult content or targeting minors inappropriately will be removed immediately and the account permanently banned.

REPORTING CONCERNS:

The Too Good to Be True Deal

A brand new iPhone for $50. A luxury watch for $20. If the price is drastically below market value something is wrong. Legitimate sellers price reasonably.
What to do: Check average prices and report suspicious listings.

The Off-Platform Request

Seller asks you to pay via WhatsApp bank transfer or cash instead of through Shoal. This removes all your protections.
What to do: Refuse and report the seller immediately.

The Fake Payment Screenshot

Buyer sends you a fake screenshot claiming they paid but you cannot see funds in your account. Do not ship until payment is confirmed in your Shoal dashboard.
What to do: Only ship after seeing confirmed payment in Shoal.

The Identity Scam

Someone contacts you claiming to be from Shoal asking for your password or personal details. Shoal will NEVER ask for your password.
What to do: Ignore and report to support@shoalmarketplace.com

The Overpayment Scam

Buyer sends more than the asking price and asks you to refund the difference. The original payment will later be reversed leaving you out of pocket.
What to do: Refuse overpayments and report the buyer.

The Fake Buyer Scam

Someone offers to buy your item at full price with no negotiation but asks for your personal bank details for payment. Shoal handles all payments through Stripe securely.
What to do: Never share bank details with buyers directly.
